The international airport at Alicante, El Altet, handles over 5 million passengers a year from both domestic and international flights. The vast majority of visitors to the region choose to take advantage of the low cost airfare and convenient location of El Altet, which is just 10 km southwest of Alicante city centre.

The cheapest way of reaching the city upon arrival at the
airport is the C-6 bus service that can be boarded at stop No.
30, located just outside of the main terminal building. The
service costs a mere 0.90 euros, but the journey to the city
centre can take up to 40 minutes. Alternatively, hiring one of the many taxis from the airport to Alicante should cost about 20 euros and will take a fraction of the time. |
The
main train station in Alicante is located in the centre of the
city from which all major Spanish towns have various daily connections
run by RENFE, including Madrid, Valencia and Murcia. The average
travel time by train from Alicante to Madrid is 3½ hours.
The city’s second train station is situated close to the harbour and runs on a narrow gauge line. These trains are run by the regional FGV and provide convenient local connections to cities all along the Costa Blanca. |

In autumn 2003 an innovative transportation system arrived
in Alicante in the form of streetcar trains called The Tram.
Currently connecting the area around Alicante harbour to the
suburb of El Campello in the north, the line is being extended
to cover a section of the city centre. At the moment the streetcar brings you every 30 minutes from Alicante harbour, via the Alicante Narrow Gauge Railway Station to El Campello, along the Cabo de la Huertas and directly to the beach of San Juan. |
